France UFO Sightings

0840; Lyons, France

The Archbishop of Lyons, Agobard, wrote, in his "De Grandine et Tonitrua," that he had stumbled upon an angry mob lynching three men and a woman. When asked why these people were to be hanged, the mob responded that they were people who landed from a "cloud ship" in Magonia. The Archbishop promptly freed the men and the woman who the mob thought were going to use magic to spoil the year's harvests. Over 1800 witnesses.

3-0927; Reims, France

On a clear Sunday morning the town of Reims, as well as the whole of eastern France including Verdun, watched the skies, fearful that the mass of objects that appeared overhead were signs of the Apocalypse.

1-1-1254; St. Alban's Abbey, France

As recorded by Matthew of Paris, St. Alban's Abbey was overflown by a large, luminous object described as a ship.

1461-11-01; Arras, France "A fiery thing like an iron rod of good length and as large as one half of the moon was seen in the sky for a little less than a quarter of an hour," wrote Jacques Duclerc in his "Memoirs of a Freeman of Arras." Indeed, many others witnessed this saucer-shaped object.

10-12-1527; France

Writings for the month of October indicate that an unexplainable cigar-shaped craft may have been witnessed throughout France.

02-07-1820; Ebrun, France

France, Ebrun, 09/07/1820,"Numerous observers have seen, during an eclipse of the moon, strange objects moving in straight lines. They were equally spaced and remained in line when they made turns. Their movements showed a military precision," M. Francois Arago wrote in the "Annales de chimie et de physique."

1826; Saarbucken, France

France, Saarbucken, ??/??/1826, A grey torpedo shaped craft was observed as it fell to the Earth at enormous speeds. No explosions were heard nor wreckage found.

1836; Cherbourg, France

People watch the flight of a rotating, donut shaped UFO. The craft hovers over the city for a time before moving off to the south towards the sea.

1856; France

Shaped like a torpedo, a large UFO surprises the normally cavalier citizens of France by moving across the entire country.

08-01-1871; Marseilles, France

Hovering over Marseilles for close to nine minutes, an incredibly large saucer moved to the north then to the east criss-crossing the skies over the city. Observers kept the craft in view until a little after 11:00pm whereupon the object vanished.

08-29-1871; Meudon,

At the Meudon Observatory, an astronomer watched many luminous objects careen through the night sky. One floated to the Earth and landed "like a disc falling through water."

03-23-1877; Vence, FR

An unknown observer wrote, "fiery spheres, extremely luminous, came out of a cloud of a peculiar shape and went slowly toward the north for one hour." It seems many brightly lit shapes emerged from a cloud shaped like a cigar.

03-1893; France

The French were amazed to see a bright, girded craft fly over their skies from horizon to horizon.

1910; France

An unidentified photographer snapped this rare photograph of entry number 5 in the Catalan Cup Race at a track in France. This picture also included a strange unidentified flying object seen over the tree tops beyond the line of spectators watching this race. There is no indication whether the photographer saw this object and intended to get it in the picture. The caption under the picture read: "Interest in smaller cars was growing by 1910 when Zuccarelli won the Coupr de l'Auto with a 2.6 litre Hispano-Suiza and finished third in the Catalan Cup Race with a slightly smaller engined model."

11-1942; Sea of Biscay, FR

Mr. C.J.J. (known to Leonard Stringfield) saw a massive wingless object appear suddenly behind a US Bomber in flight on anti-submarine patrol, overtake it and fly alongside it for 15 minutes. Sgt. F.M.B. took a number of photographs with an L-20 8"X10" negative plate official service camera. The object then gained altitude, made a 180 degree turn and sped away. Only one photograph of the lot, the one taken with a filter, turned out satisfactory, and in C.J.J.'s words, "was a perfect print." Intelligence has never released any of the pictures or any report on this case.

11-23-1944; Strasbourg, FR

Patrolling the night skies over France with the 415th US Night Fighter Squadron, Lt. E. Schluter encountered a squadron of 10 fireballs that flew past him at high speed.

FOUR LUMINOUS UFOs SEEN NEAR FRENCH AIR BASE

On Sunday evening, February 15, 1998, three people--Ferdinand D., Simone B. and Beatrice S.-- were driving on Autoroute RN13 between Evreux and Saint Andre de l'Eure when they spied "four luminous objects in the sky." A UFO was first seen near the perimeter of the Armee de l'Air (French Air Force--J.T.) Base 105 Evreux/Fauville. "It had a spherical form and remained stationary in front of us," Ferdinand reported. "As we drove into 'old Evreux,' the object was on our right." They dropped off Beatrice at her home in the Val David section of Evreux and then drove down Chaussee (local road) D67, heading back to SaintAndre de l'Eure. "We then saw three other spheres in a stationary group," Simone reported. "The first one came and made a jerky motion. Then the UFOs dispersed in all directions." Stopping the car, Ferdinand and Simone stepped outside to get a better look. They watched the first UFO return. "The intensity of the light varied, seeming to give an impression of shrinkage and expansion. It disappeared after ten minutes." Evreux is a city in the department of Eure about 140 kilometers (84 miles) west of Paris. (Merci beaucoup a Thierry Garnier pour ces nouvelles.)

BOOMERANG-SHAPED UFO SIGHTED IN SOUTHERN FRANCE

On Thursday, June 25, 1998, at about 11 p.m., Scottish photographer Stuart Conway and his friend, Wayne Wilson were on vacation in Montpezat, a village on the Lac Sainte Croix in Provence, on France's Mediterranean coast, when they spotted a UFO.

"Myself and a friend, Wayne Wilson, were sitting on the balcony of our hotel, chatting, and suddenly we saw this triangular object fly silently by," Stuart reported. "It seemed to be pretty close, and it had five or six dull yellowish lights. After a couple of seconds, it just faded out."

Conway used Photoshop software to reproduce the UFO he had seen. The image shows six yellow lights on the underside of a boomerang shape, in an arrangement reminiscent of the "Lubbock Lights" seen in Texas in 1952. There were three lights on each "wing" of the UFO. (Many thanks to Stuart Conway for this report.)
