Kentucky UFO Sightings
July 7, 1947 Louisville, KY
Mr. Al Hixenbaugh took photographs of heavy contrails in the sky which were being left by very fast moving objects of some kind entirely unknown at that time. No known aircraft could travel at the speed indicated by the pictures.
Jan. 7, 1948 Godman AFB, KY
While chasing a UFO, Captain Charles Mantrell crashed his P-51 and subsequently died.
Captain Thomas Mantell was requested by the base control tower at Godman AFB, to investigate a UFO they had picked up on radar.
As a result of this encounter Mantell plane crashed and he was killed. His last message to the control tower was: "It appears to be metallic object......tremendous in size....directly ahead and slightly above .... I am trying to close for a better look."

Mr. Paul Brennon of Paris observed and photographed a small dark walnut shaped object flying in the sky and leaving a bright contrail.

Roosevelt Spurlock was relaxing on the front porch of his Oneida Home. MaryHelton was at her Countryside Restaurant. Margy Turner was also finishing up herduties at the restaurant. Vernon Stidham was at his Red Bird home.Still, they all said they seen it. Alarge square object with red lights,windows, hovering just above the big hillsin Bullskin. What these four people saw as well as manymore Oneidians Tuesday night has this smallcalm, peaceful mountain town in a completeuproar Wednesday morning.Air traffic controllers at the LondonAirport say it must have been a large plane...possibly a B-52 flying a lowaltitude.However, Roosevelt Spurlock, a forestranger with the Peabody Ranger Stationsays what he saw was no plane becausehe has seen a lot of planes in his day.Mary Helton swears what she saw was noplane. "I saw it and it was very big,scary, and square with windows," saidthe Oneida restaurant owner."It was the scariest thing I have everencountered." said Spurlock. "I wassitting on my front porch and it cameover the Bullskin mountains barelycutting the mountaintops.It had two front redlights and two backred lights. It was square and largeand it scared me," said the forestryman."It just made this loud earpiercing sound, sort of like a whistling sound"said Helton."This thing circled and came backtraveling at a very slow speed,"said Spurlock, "and no plane couldgo that slow."

Single witness Wit. saw a "big bright light" stationary in the sky under a cloud layer, which began moving in a circular pattern. Lite moved toward witness. As witness started vehicle to leave area, lite stopped 100ft away, then moved right to left and out of site.
